The major things that made me choose to purchase it were;

1. High quality parts. This card isn’t a cheap variant of a 6950, it’s a hard card with Japanese made capacitors (the best) and great construction.

2. Quiet! This card is 100 quieter than my last card, a 4890. My wife loves it that my computer can not be heard in the other room now!

3. Cool! This card runs very cool. The two fan configuration does an excellent job keeping it cool (and is the reason it is so calm, the fans can run at a lower rpm and still supply more cooling than a single fan).

4. Fast fast fast. This card, while not a reference design (for unlocking shaders) is still a fast card. It blows away every game I throw at it, and I can run crysis at max settings!

One thing to remember about reference and non reference cards is that when you unlock the shaders, you only get a 3 performance increase, and that’s at the cost of a hotter running and louder card (due to the single fan).

Bottom line, if you need a great clard that’s fast, calm, cool, and has many overclockability, this is the one to get.

The non ref 6950 Dirt three ed. Runs modern games with ease
Easy to overclock with the free Sapphire TRIXX program
Stays really cool (just like another reviewer comfirmed)
32c on idle; doing nothing, 4045c web browsing on ff5, 69c max load after an hour or so of bad company 2, cod4, metro, ect. Data was taken from trixx gadget on windows 7′s sidebar
2gb gddr5 memory helps with aa and high res gaming

Dual bios switch for those nasty bios flashing mishaps. Though defeats the bios flashing function because amd laser cut the extra 6970 shaders.

Cons;
Two cards in crossfire only, no triple crossfire x
Cannot flash 6970 shaders (just a heads up for those wanting to unlock)
Large card for those people with mid cases; i think it is around 11in
Covers many slots so be sure your motherboard is large enough to fit two of these or an audio card if you want so
Hard to find bios switch
Need an active display port adapter for 3 monitor eyefinity setup

Other thoughts;
Needs two 6 pin pci e power cables, min 500w psu
Has a blue circuit board
I read someplace online that this sapphire model uses japanese capacitors so voltage tweaking is possible; i haven’t tried this though
Have it running at 900/1350 with TRIXX

Conclusion;
IMHO, the best bang for buck 6950 out there; many 6950 1gb retail more than this 2gb gddr5 card online, factor in the dirt three voucher, accessories and rebates, and the temps with the custom cooler, this is a must purchase in my perspective. It is a good overclocker too!

Deciding to go with the 2GB card was an easy choice, as its a “future proof” of kinds.The extra 1GB of vram may not be too obvious in benchmarks now, but can be at some point. Also the extra vram will certainly be a factor if you are running at high resolutions (1920×1080 +), the benchmarks will back that up. This card nips at the heels of the nvidia gtx 570 in benchmarks and is about $100 cheaper. The price to performance percentage is superb.

Deciding on the Sapphire Dirt three Ed. Of the card was an easy choice. Sapphire is a quality maker that I have had good experiences with in the past. This card is well made, with Japanese capacitors and a hard frame. The two fans and thick heatsink pipes keep this baby cool I get about 30C at idle and 50 60C under load while playing Bad Company two for long periods of time at max settings. It also does not hurt that the card comes with two free games: Dirt three and a free copy of Deus Ex: HR (more on the latter later!). With the $20 rebate and the already amazing price to performance percentage, this card is most likely the best bang for the buck now in high end graphics cards.

A note on size: This card is a monster about eleven inches in length. Most current mid level cases will fit this card just fine; the card fits with lots of room to spare in my Lian Li PC 7FN. Its also a two slot PCI E card, so be prepared to give up the room for this baby. The card also requires two PCI E power connectors from your power supply. I have read other reviews complain that the card sags at the end caused by weight, but my card doesn’t seem to sag at all.

NOTE about FREE DEUS EX CODE:

As another reviewer stated, you will not get your code for Deus Ex: HR at the time you buy the card, nor apparently any time close to that. I ordered this card on August 20th, received it the 23rd, and have still to get my code through email for Deus Ex. Its now August 30th, so its been ten days. I called to ask, and the rep simply referred me to the terms and conditions, which states 7 10 business days. I do not understand why this can not be an direct procedure, as it’s with other sites (newegg). I’ll update this review when I get my code, just to give others who are thinking about purchasing this card an idea of how long they may have to wait to get this perck. A little ridiculous, and another in a series of steps backwards seemed to have taken over the past year or but not the card’s fault, so can not take away from the 5 star ranking.

EDIT 9/14/2011

I ended up having to call buyer service after the tenth business day to ask about my Deus Ex code. Seemingly many sort of error occurred, and my code never made it into the system. The buyer service rep was awesome (they generally are with Amazon) and escalated the issue to her manager, who then put in a ticket to get a new code inside 24 hours. Ended up to get the code about 23 hours afterward, lol. Better late than never I guess!

The card was perfect by the way. Have not had an issue maxing any game I have thrown at it still.

I owned many video cards. This card is by far the best. The best part, is that it runs cool! And very stable. One card is enough..but I bought a 2nd one for SLI. It laughs at anything I throw at it, and stays cool. My 3 gtx 285s were way too hot. This card is phenominal. I pulled them separately and scraped off the thermal grease, and upgraded them to Arctic Silver. After breakin, Im to get low idle temps, with hot ambient conditions (I live in CA). Under load, they never get above 82C, and I put a big load on them, with frequently high ambient temps.

I bought this item because i use an Intel i5 3.06Ghz so i wanted to test if a better card could give me a change to move fom Flight Simulator 2004 to FSX. It worth it!

I run the simulator under average slider modifications, but it works! Improoves your flying experience many, dont talk about the textures and image quality. Once in the past i though that my LG 21 inches lcd monitor wasnt good enough or my blackberry wasn’t like good enough to take pictures straight to my monitor and share on Facebook or BB Groups, but i found that my old Nvidia 9600GT was the problem, because i have stunning views with this card and using the same proccesor.

Other games? Well, it just eates any other game graphics. It runs Battlefield three with full sliders and 1920×1080 as a candy.. No more comments.

I got to warn you about the power prerequisites. This card is a dragon! gets 70 or more degrees celcius hot on occasion, and you may want to have a good blowing machine to cool this Dragon down(Tower case with good ventilation system). Another thing is that you may want to think about of purchasing a 700W+ power supply. I boutgh a 1000W; they aren’t cheap but if you attempt to use this card with old ATX power supplys with less than 700W, you may get CTD, Image problems, and many other issues you may be able to google and learn before.

After that, i recommend this card 101 for flight simulator reasons. Another thing: Its time resistant: The Flight Simulator X requires lot of proccesor resources, more than Video card, not the great Intel i7 Extreme can handle the FSX with full graphic sliders, since FSX is unable to handle/take benefit of the dual core GPUs, you don need a better card to play FSX. So just don’t purchase the i7 Extreme still, lets wait for another more powerfull and see.

About the Nvidia support. Its good, responses are fast and their drivers are updated frequently, specially for this product(one of their top one 2011 products). I have not hand any problems, just questions and doubts about overclocking, just to clarify i have not had any problems with my Dragon.

I got to thank Amazon’s fast service, my god, not once its been late, in fact i mooved from Ebay to because of that, is dependable and the packaging is just outstanding(including and specially this videocard handling). I live in the Dominican Republic and got the videocard in amazing four days! two days by and two more with my currier service, and as a fact of magic i was there, on that friday after work installing my little dragon. So yeah, is just the best service for internet purchasing ever, my god.!

Enjoy this card, purchase it and dont drive your mind into more research! This one really worth it! ; )

They haunt your life and can ruin an otherwise good experience in an alternate reality. The only disadvantage to this is that a good graphics card costs a pretty penny. When majority of people think about computers they think about another two hundred dollars to be an unbelievable total of money (never bring up the GTX 590), but that’s what this card, considered an entry level card by most, stands at for the cash. Is it worth it?

For the price the performance is invaluable.

Many less picky gamers could most likely say it runs all of their games flawlessly. Again, for the picky gamer, it does not quite do that. I switched from SLI GTS 450s to this single card, and it outperforms them, but still has many hiccups (or many, based on the game) at full 1080p with Anti Aliasing and SSAO on full. But, all of my games (even Dragon Age two now that it’s patched) run at or near an satisfactory 30 Frames Per second. In fact you’re really to get, with this superclocked variant, a product that almost performs also as its +100$ superior, the 570, it typically falls inside a 10 margin. This is a premium card for the budget gamer. It’ll run, and run well, most all games with stunning visuals. This is not the opus that the GTX 590 is, but it does not cost $700+ either.

I greatly recommend it, and could recommend you SLI it down the road to outperform (theoretically) a GTX 580. Just be sure your powersupply can handle it. Many do not have the 2x six pin connectors.

I owned some EVGA cards, and am happy with the. Running dual GTX 560 TI, and it plows through BC2 like butter. Looks to run cool, stable, and calm. Is a great place to buy from too.Card showed up in three days! after I placed my order.

After having both cards in some days, I’m really impressed. In BC2 I’m running everything maxed out, and to get 100fps.

I did have to use EVGA precision, to set a fan profile, and increase the speed of the fans. The auto fan sucks. My comp is air cooled, and the cards have hit 70c in game. Idle about 30c. Happy with that!

First and primary this is an EVGA video board, and I can not say enough about EVGA the company, their tech support, and their place in the manufacturer’s championships at No.1, and I think that isn’t debatable, it is factual. With the ONLY Lifetime Warranty in its class for this kind of video card, the EVGA 560Ti SuperClocked video card is factory overclocked all right, but there is still room up at the top for higher pursuits, which I will describe in full in just a second. But 1st many of those techno babbles that I hinted at earlier:

1) The 560 Ti series is the 1st video card from EVGA/nVidia to use the famed GF114 Processor (GPU)chip, which is a new architecture with many new features
2) The GF114 CPU is cut on 40nm technology, which means it is lighter and smaller and able to accomplish high clock cycles because it is easier to keep cool, among other interesting features
3) With 137GB/sec bandwidth, a 256 bit bus, 384 Unified Shaders, and 1024MB of DDR5 VRAM (MLC memory to be specific) this card yields 30.7 GigaPixels for its pixel fillrate, and 61.4 GTexels for its texture fillrate, on a 32 ROPs PCI E 16X bus interface: all that means is that it is very fast at generating scenery and game action is blinding fast, and all you must do is plug it in and give it a 16X bus PCI E slot and you are Golden!
4) It supports DirectX 11.0/10.0/SM5.0 out of the box without drivers, and with 1950 Million transistors is one of the most concentrated and compact video cards in its base board construction of all the Fermi nVidia cards at any price point
5) The 560 Ti SC is a “compact” form factor video card, so it fits into places which the big, and bulky 12″+ nVidia cards and bigger ATI video boards can not squeeze, so you get many of video card power in a small form factor of just less than 11 inches, a good thing for Mini ATX and small form factor case builders
6) With Base Default clocks of 900Mhz Core, 1053Mhz Memory, and 1800Mhz Shader clocks it is one of the highest clocked OEM cards around, and with conditioning and correct modification may be overclocked considerably, and OpenCL, CUDA, PhysX, and DirectCompute 5.0 are natively supported too
7) In spite of the high clocks, the 560Ti SC is a low voltage video card, because it is economical and can operate with the GF114 CPU at low power settings, to wit at overclocked settings of 960/1920/2140Mhz the voltage is only 1.0370Volts at 100 GPU Load

Using Precision Video Card Utility, or MSI Afterburner if you like that flavor graphics card performance minder, it’s possible to change the clocks considerably to accomplish higher performance clocks for calling for game play, or PhysX of Folding@Home workouts where time is the enemy and you only have so most of it to get a given result. I’m running my GTX 560 Ti SC’s (in SLI in my case, I have two of them) at the aforementioned 960/1920/2140Mhz clocks and using both cards for Folding@Home, every one with a dedicated Work Unit 24/7 365 days a year with excellent results!

My two video cards in an overclocked Core i7 970 CPU equipped EVGA Classified E760 based computer are averaging nearly 20,000 Points Per Day for my Folding@Home efforts, a most enjoyable situation that I have going! As I look at them now, I’m typing on that computer which is my office server and my media and multi media machine, with many RAID configurations off an Areca 1680IX 8 Hardware RAID Bus Master those video cards are cranking out two FAHome work units now at 99 Load on the CPU for each card, and the cards are at 73 degrees for card NO.1, and 69 degrees Celsius for card NO.2, steady as rocks in Gibraltar. They have been doing this same dance for nearly seven months and counting, having put them in service at the 1st part of February, 2011, and they haven’t missed a day of work or play in all that time, 100 up time for these cards and my computer overclocked to 4.2Ghz no less! Pretty KUHL, right?

I also play many games on this CPU, with Crysis two and BC2 being my favorites presently, and with the video cards in SLI I can turn on the settings to just less than 1000Mhz Core clock and 2200Mhz Memory clocks and play either one of those high demand games at full 1080P on my Samsung 46″ LED LCD HDTV, which the computer is hooked up to via Mini HDMI to HDMI switch off card No.1 with perfect resolution and unbelievable game play! there’s no end to the delight that my card duo can bring me, as they’re arguably the best pair of sub $500 video cards that exist, and I have got a lifetime’s warranty on both cards from EVGA to boot, the best situation possible! FRAPS says I’m pulling more than 45FPS average in Crysis two at 1080P and BC2 yields 50 70+FPS goodness, an unreal performance from two video cards that I paid less than $500 for the both of them! Amazing!

What is left to encapsulate for the nice people about the EVGA 560 Ti SC’s? Well, I do admit that I turn on the fans for Folding@Home work, and they can make a trifle bit of sound at their highest settings (80+ and higher), but that’s to be projected if you do not want to burn the cards up to melted circuit boards! That single fan in this configuration is more than doing the job, by the way, so there is no need for a twin fan setup with the 560 Ti SC’s, like the MSI “Double frozen blah blah” cards have going for those setups.Totally unnecessary!

Normally the twins are driving a set of Acer 24″ LED LCD displays, that’s when they aren’t playing games and driving the Samsung HDTV, and I have gotten better than 30K 3DMarks in 3DMark ’06, and scored 24K 3DMarks in Vantage, which has been accomplished with heavy overclocking on both video cards in SLI and the 970 CPU @ 4.4Ghz.Air cooling on everything, by the way, no H20 in the house. I have found these two video cards to be my best investment in years and years in video boards. I mean what is there to say about two premium cards that cost less than $500 for the both, shipped? That’s really sick and totally crazy, but true! I mean two years ago I paid more than $700 for a pair of EVGA GTX 285 SC’s and they do not compare to these two at all, not close.

As for single card use, that’s good and dandy, you can not go wrong there either but what a shame if you do not or can not support an SLI gig with two of these monsters in the house! In any way, this is the finest video card for the $$ in existence today, after being out nearly eight months now I can still say that, and that’s amazing in and of itself the way the video card market changes so quickly, like hamburgers at McDonald’s! The EVGA 560 TI SuperClocked video card is Da Kind.You can not beat it so you’d best be writing out that list for the new computer and include at least one of these in the parts list, and if you are replacing an old video card with one/two of these you also can not go wrong: this is the best value for the almighty $$$ on planet earth today!

It was a bit more costly than I typically go though it’s priced in its tier. Easy to install (as someone mentioned, it takes two slots also of note, it requires a six prong power connection to run the fan). Popped it in, booted up, went to nVidia’s web site to get the new drivers (I never annoy with the out of date CDs) rebooted and bam, everything was up and running in all its beautiful glory. I have been playing SWTOR recently and I am pulling a 50 60 fps running around with everything (including shadows) on high. With shadows on low (where I really favor it) I have 70 80 fps on average. In calm places (like my ship) I have seen it go as high as 107 fps. :D All in all nice. I could not be happier.

The card was kind of big for the xps 420 case but it’s still good. Runs Arma two on High high settings/ crysis at high with no aa mass effect two at max 60 frames hard. Company of heroes all max settings + physic settings + 16AA 60+ frames. Just cause two Max settings with Physics on and 32XAA 26 42 frames. STill have to test many games. Driver install was easy unlike Amd cards.. this card performs better then the 5770 and 6770 by a good 10 40. I’m running on a 375W power supply dell power supplies are constructed to last with a Q6600 Quad core 2.4GHZ intel processor 3gb ram and windows seven ulti 32 bit. Runs at 50 66C when gaming and 40C when idle. I’ll get back when I test more games.

I just popped this man right into my system and there I enjoyed better graphics so yes I do recommend this card for anybody who needs to upgrade from an older card but doesn’t want to use up many.

Best ever, pricey but you pay for performance I’m happy with my buy.I had before sapphire 6990 and while performance was better it was little too much heat and sound from that card so I sold it and got one 6970 from his and it was good but I missed my 6990 performance.Not anymore!!!!!Get it you won’t regreat your choice.

I was a little hesitant to fire sale my two MSI 6970 Lightnings (which are amazing) and purchasing a single 7970, but it has been unwarranted. The performance, once easily overclocked (by ATI/AMD’s stock overdrive), is on par with my last setup on games that supported crossfire. The games that did not support it, well this card just blows my last setup out of the water in that scenario.

Another point that nearly made me sit on my hands for a while and wait goed from top of the line custom cards (msi lightnings)to launch day OEM cards. I have only bought cards with after market coolers for the past three generations but I just could not wait to attempt out the 7970. I am happy to say that while gaming, I do not notice a difference in fan sound. If anything, it runs cooler than my last setup (obviously crossfire had many to do with it) and it can be really quieter. While the Lightnings had an excellent HSF with all kinds of other custom parts, the 7970′s 28nm procedure just really nullifies the need for a monster HSF setup.

Plenty of great reviews out there on the interwebz, go read those. Just wanted to five star this due to fool with the three star review spreading FUD.

I owned many video cards. This card is by far the best. The best part, is that it runs cool! And very stable. One card is enough..but I bought a 2nd one for SLI. It laughs at anything I throw at it, and stays cool. My 3 gtx 285s were way too hot. This card is phenominal. I pulled them separately and scraped off the thermal grease, and upgraded them to Arctic Silver. After breakin, Im to get low idle temps, with hot ambient conditions (I live in CA). Under load, they never get above 82C, and I put a big load on them, with frequently high ambient temps.

I bought this item because i use an Intel i5 3.06Ghz so i wanted to test if a better card could give me a change to move fom Flight Simulator 2004 to FSX. It worth it!

I run the simulator under average slider modifications, but it works! Improoves your flying experience many, dont talk about the textures and image quality. Once in the past i though that my LG 21 inches lcd monitor wasnt good enough or my blackberry wasn’t like good enough to take pictures straight to my monitor and share on Facebook or BB Groups, but i found that my old Nvidia 9600GT was the problem, because i have stunning views with this card and using the same proccesor.

Other games? Well, it just eates any other game graphics. It runs Battlefield three with full sliders and 1920×1080 as a candy.. No more comments.

I got to warn you about the power prerequisites. This card is a dragon! gets 70 or more degrees celcius hot on occasion, and you may want to have a good blowing machine to cool this Dragon down(Tower case with good ventilation system). Another thing is that you may want to think about of purchasing a 700W+ power supply. I boutgh a 1000W; they aren’t cheap but if you attempt to use this card with old ATX power supplys with less than 700W, you may get CTD, Image problems, and many other issues you may be able to google and learn before.

After that, i recommend this card 101 for flight simulator reasons. Another thing: Its time resistant: The Flight Simulator X requires lot of proccesor resources, more than Video card, not the great Intel i7 Extreme can handle the FSX with full graphic sliders, since FSX is unable to handle/take benefit of the dual core GPUs, you don need a better card to play FSX. So just don’t purchase the i7 Extreme still, lets wait for another more powerfull and see.

About the Nvidia support. Its good, responses are fast and their drivers are updated frequently, specially for this product(one of their top one 2011 products). I have not hand any problems, just questions and doubts about overclocking, just to clarify i have not had any problems with my Dragon.

I got to thank Amazon’s fast service, my god, not once its been late, in fact i mooved from Ebay to because of that, is dependable and the packaging is just outstanding(including and specially this videocard handling). I live in the Dominican Republic and got the videocard in amazing four days! two days by and two more with my currier service, and as a fact of magic i was there, on that friday after work installing my little dragon. So yeah, is just the best service for internet purchasing ever, my god.!

Enjoy this card, purchase it and dont drive your mind into more research! This one really worth it! ; )

Giving many Pros and Cons below.
BEWARE OF POWER prerequisites. Does not tell you this you but EVGA recommend you have least a 450W PSU and a MINIMUM of 24amps on the +12V rail!

Pros:
1. Performance and price, if you need a GTX 560 Ti but you just do not got the bucks for it, this is the one alternative for you. To start, for 185 dollars ten rebate, this card is beats pretty much just about everything that is out there by performance/dollar plus this thing is a great overclocker.I can not comment on stock performance because I now overclocked it to 915MHz Core/2150MHz Memory after turning on the computer by using MSI Afterburner. After the overclocking, I played fight Field 2: Bad Company two (w/4xAA) and Crysis two (w/ DX11 and improved graphic package) with 1920×1080 resolution on super High setting. I neglected to record the real FPS but they ran very smooth. I also Scored 8xx in Unigine, and 42xx with 3DMark eleven with the rig below.

2. Packaging and build quality, the packaging was very nice and simple, card sitted in a tightly filled box so it removes sliding around throughout shipping/handling. And when you look at the card physically, it just has a nice aesthetic attraction to it and the card has a nice weight to it. Over that, EVGA also gives you a couple of Molex>6 pin adapter in case you have none and a DVI>VGA adapter for older monitors that still uses VGA.

3.This isn’t a big card. I have the NZXT M59 Classic Series ATX Mid Tower interior chassis M59 001BK (Black) with GIGABYTE AMD 990FX + SB950 AM3+ SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard GA 990FXA UD3 and this card fits in the case with room to spare. Other alike classed cards like Radeon 6850/6870 are couple inches longer than this card and could possibly have fitting issues. But there’s one issue I have with this and I’ll talk about it in “Cons” section.

Cons:
1.PCI E power connector position. This card takes 2 6pin PCI E connections, and the position for the connectors to go in are directly behind the card , which means if your case is a little short, and your six pin cables are little inflexible, there may be a problem trying to jam those six pin guys in there. It could of been nice if EVGA put the six pin sockets on the side.

2.Fans may be a little noisy (depends on how you define “noisy”). When I ran Unigine or played aforementioned games, the fans on this thing worked @ max (75) and it does get somewhat noisy, but since my computer case is inside arms reach, you could just be hearing a little humming (nothing like those low freq hums though).

Final thoughts to sum it all up:
If you want a not too big, great performance/price, and easily overclockable card, this is certainly your biggest bang for the buck :D

I have a relative normal PC, and just with this card I can play all the games I installed at 1920 x 1080 at full graphics with no problem at all. Using FRAPS, the average fps (depending on the game) is between 40 and 80 fps.

It is calm. I expected a noisier video card, but the fan looks to do a great job cooling the card and being silent.

The seller was great. It shipped the day I bought it using UPS, and the card got delivered before projected. No problems at all. I totally recommend it, and I’m considering for future purchases.

Overall, I’m very happy with the buy and the service.

It ran good playing Crysis two and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but then it started producing artifacts and resetting the computer randomly. I unfortunately cut out the serial number to apply for the rebate and from what I am reading on Amazon’s returns site, they will not take the card back since it is missing this. This is a bum deal because EVGA will only take the rebate up to 30 days after the buy, so I did not really have an option to see if the card worked for long before cutting out the serial number to apply for the rebate. Maybe I should not applied for the rebate after all.

I have been working with EVGA’s support team and they have been useful and responsive, but I am out a video card and can not play games till this is replaced. I appreciate that EVGA is trying to troubleshoot by proxy, but I know it is the card through my troubleshooting and I can not return it to Amazon. If EVGA does not take it back I’ll be changing this review to one star. I am nearly to the point where I wish I could get a refund , then go to my local store and purchase a card that if it does not work I can take back the same day for a substitute. I would not be surprised if it takes me three weeks or more to get a substitute card from EVGA.

I have had great experiences from Amazon, but they have to make clear that they can not take returns BEFORE the item is bought so you do not get in trouble like I did after applying for the manufacturer’s rebate. This is the 1st bad experience I have had purchasing on Amazon. I understand their point of view that once the serial number is cut off the box that they can not take it back, but it puts the buyer in a bad spot.

NOT! I want to state right up front that this is a great video card. I will not go into an illustrious hardware review as there are lots of computer hardware review websites out there that conducted much better and more in depth analysis on the GTX580. I’ll just give you my opinions.

I just bought and installed three EVGA GTX580 Superclock (SC) cards as an upgrade from my “old” three EVGA GTX480 Superclock (SC) cards. The GTX480s served me well and the only complaint I have is the fan sound they produce when under full load (when gaming or benchmarking). Here are the pros and cons that I noted far when comparing the GTX580 SC to the GTX480 SC:

Pros:

Cost of the new GTX580 is reasonable; NVidia had to remain competitive and released the new GTX580 with a reasonable sticker price while dropping the price of the “old” flagship GTX480 at the same time!

Lower fan sound (5 7db difference under full load) when running a single or 2 way SLI configuration

GTX580 runs cooler at idle and under full load (10C cooler at idle and about 5 7C cooler under full load)

GTX580 performs better by 15 30 in every game and benchmark that I have ran (Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, Battlefield2, Alien VS Predator, 3DMark Vantage, Heaven 2.1)

Overclocks better than one could expect; I overclocked my three GTX580 SCs to 850Mhz (GPU), 1700Mhz (Shaders), 2250Mhz (memory) and it was rock stable with no artifacts, lockups, or crashes; one thing be aware of is that the GPU and shader clocks are locked together and can not be overclocked individually just like the GTX480

2 way SLI scaling is awesome just like the GTX480

1st generation driver for this card appears to be pretty stable with most games although there have been complaints about Medal of Honor: Black Ops having lag issues; it hasn’t been determined if or not a game problem or a graphics driver problem. Hopefully the issue will be fixed soon via game patch or driver update.

Cons:

A obvious reduction in fan sound can only be gained by running either a single card or running 2 way SLI and leaving a space between the two cards; once in a 3 way SLI configuration, most of the cooling efficiency of the new vapor cooler is lost; while this one is a “kind of a con”, it must be stated so expectations about the lower fan sound is put into correct perspective

I can not justify the cost of upgrading if you already own two or more GTX480s; I lost money selling my GTX480s just to upgrade; the loss of money and the performance get wasn’t worth it IMHO

GTX580 consumes more power and the GTX480; this may cause many of you to have to upgrade your power supply if you want to run two or more GTX580s the GTX580 buyers about 20 Watts more per card and the GTX480)

Need at least a 1200 Watt power supply if you want to run three cards just like the GTX480

Minimal get in performance with three or four way SLI; two GTX580s in more than enough; only some games that take benefit of three and 4 way SLI and only when the game settings and resolutions are maxed

NVidia should released this variant of the Fermi GPU back in April; but at least they learned from their “mistakes” and listened to buyer feedback. The GTX580 is a better and more refined product. Is it late to the party? You decide!

So, if you need an early Christmas gift and do not already own two or more GTX480s then by all means go for it! If you already own one GTX480, get a GTX580 and run the GTX480 as a Physx card :)

There aren’t multi GPU generating issues, as can influence multi card configurations or multi GPU on one card configurations. I do not aim that exactly at ATI, as nVidia has their just part of driver difficulties also, but overall a single GPU card is a safer bet for cutting edge games as any scaled multi GPU setup will require a compatibility profile update to work properly.

The card overclocks beautifully. I feel like I have not touched its maximum performance, still at 1080p, there aren’t games that surpass my visual desires that could justify higher settings. A 10 overclock over reference GTX 580 settings comes with a commensurate performance increase; it is my feeling, though I do not have any hard evidence, that these EVGA models are binned for superior performance, so the price premium is not just for the stock average overclock, but for what I perceive as a higher likelihood of taking it more.

As mentioned, the temperatures are controlled. Totally no complaints there. The card is much quieter than the nVidia GTX 280 that it replaced, also.

The problem comes in with the question of value. I do not want to go into a long tear about it, but you are just straight up better off purchasing a EVGA GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card with Lifetime Warranty 012 P3 1570 AR if you want nearly the same level of performance for a considerable savings. In SLI, you could run three GTX 570s in SLI for the price of two GTX 580s. In many games, at modern resolutions, you will pay over $50 per extra FPS going from the GTX 570 to the GTX 580. Do you really, really think $50 per frame for an extra three FPS in The Witcher two is worth the money? I do not. And ATI has price to performance on lockdown with their 6950 2GB reference models that may be carefully flashed to 6970 specification.

So, is this an awesome card? Totally. It is the best single GPU card on the planet now. That’ll change, it generally does. Next generation’s less pricey choice will perform identically to this. Look at the GTX 570 vs the GTX 480 virtually same performance. And the GTX 560Ti is no slouch, lagging only some real world frames per second behind its more costly brethren to hold the nVidia price:performance sweet spot. Take these facts into consideration before buying. You are paying I paid! an surprising premium to have “the best.” The theoretical maximum improvement over the last generation’s unrealized Fermi the GTX 480 is 17. In the real world, you get between 6 and 12.

There’s just no way around admitting that this is far past the point of diminishing returns. It excels, but at an surprising price. If I had the choice to make over again, I could probably have gone with the GTX 570, as it offers close performance at a considerable discount. Smart money may be on the ATI 6950 that magically turns into a 6970 with no added expenditure, but I do not like Xfire (any more than I like SLI). Single GPU for me. This is the king. But much lighter is the wallet that buys the crown.

By R.B from KC See all my reviews () This review is from: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Superclocked 1536 MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini HDMI SLI prepared restricted Lifetime Warranty Graphics Card, 015 P3 1582 AR (Personal Computers) In a room with an ambient temperature of about 75F, and in an Antec 1200 case (3 front 120mm intake, two rear 120mm exhaust, one top mounted 250mm exhaust) the GTX 580 idles (in P8, or low performance mode, which it idles in if you are not playing a game) at 46C and an auto fan speed around 40 (which is the minimum in the driver). At load (tested in Crysis, and some other games) the card reaches about 68C, with a fan speed not much over 50. It may be kept cooler, but anywhere above 50 and the GPU fan becomes audible over the case fans (in my setup, anyway). With the lifetime warranty of an EVGA card comes some drawbacks. The 1st is the reference design of the card, that keeps temps around 5 10C warmer than the custom cooled designs of businesses like MSI and Asus. That means less headroom for overclocking, though I have seen pretty competent overclocks on this specific card (I have not tried myself, however) The second is the reference fan, which is louder than alike models from EVGA’s competitors at the same speed. The up side to reference cooling is that air is pushed directly out the back of the card, instead of inside the case. This is a good feature for anybody without excellent ventilation in their case, because it takes the hot air away from the other parts in the case.

Coming from an ATI HD4850 to the GTX 580 was like night and day. All of my games run much faster (obviously), and unlike the HD 4850 (that got over 100 degrees Celcius at load, and idled at 70 Celcius) it does not sound like a vacuum cleaner as I am trying to play games.

At $500, I assume that you know exactly what you need in a card, or at least I could hope so. This card delivers excellent gameplay at 1080p, with everything maxed out on my system in Crysis, and some other taxing games that I tried it out on. Beyond 1080p, you may have to look at the 3gb model GTX 580 (I see 1+GB handling in Crysis at 1080p, and I can only imagine that stepping up to 2560×1200 or whatever other 27 30″ resolutions are out there, could stretch the card to the breaking point. It may be done, but you’d have to sacrifice AA passes, Vsync, and possibly some other bells and whistles to make it work).

I could recommend this card to someone that wants to simply drop the best single GPU card in their machine, and be done with it. More performance may be had for the money through SLI’ing 560ti’s, or 480′s, or any number of other lesser cards, but the drawbacks of SLI make those solutions unattractive to me. While others are desperate for SLI or Crossfire drivers that work with Battlefield 3, those with this card will be playing the game and not worrying about it.

Oh, and before I forget: I seeed about 300w of power draw (max) in game from this card. I have heard that it can go to 350+ if you overclock, if you’re thinking about to get this card (and particularly if you’re going to SLI) be sure you have got at least 600w (for a single) and maybe 850 1000w for SLI. It is better to use up the extra 30 40 bucks for adequate power, than to either run the card with inadequate power, or run it at the maximum of your PSU (which will fry the PSU, sooner or later).

Just somewhat lower in FPS on most games (4 8FPS) then the $500+ GTX 580
Runs 99 of games I own close to or above 60FPS with High Quality settings @ 1920×1200
Card runs just good temp wise for me, when pushed. 39 40C Idle 75C 77C when pushed
Unlike the other review, I didn’t have issues when pushing this card on different games, Crysis, StarCraft II etc.
I run my games at 1920×1200 and it’s above 35FPS on Crysis fan mode settings (2xAA DX10 fan quality setting enabled) Best Quality
I also haven’t run into big of lag etc at all with Star Craft II. In fact I just finished playing campaign mode

I put my configuration up as a point of reference for FPS performance.
In my case, I had zero lockups, no overheating problems, and excellent performance. I could propose you have a decent sized case with excellent cooling and power supply.

In Comparison to the suggested 6870 Card:
GTX draws about 65W more power under full game load
Runs about 14C Higher Under load
GTX 570 is about 10 20 faster on most games in FPS


One thing I have still to attempt to see if its worth using my OLD GTX 285 SSC card as a Physix card.

Unbelievable improvement over the ATI card (perhaps not a just comparison from the start) but this card certainly takes benefit of the Mercury Playback Engine. I can really preview footage in After Effects whereas it was painful before. It ran at six FPS after applying comparatively light color grading effects but now I can preview 1080p24 footage in real time. Editing in Premiere is quite comfy now no more stuttering or lagging. Worth every bit of $325.

I newly upgraded from a Diamond HD 5870, and I can honestly say that Nvidia is back on top. Installation is so easy. It fit nicely in my Antec 900 case. Plus, temps and power draw are much improved when in comparison to the 480. All the benchmarks I have seen put this card over all others. It outperforms many dual gpu cards. My temps at idle are around 40c with full load temps in the 80′s. All of my games run flawlessly with this card. Most games run at a full 60 fps with all settings maxed out (e.G. Black Ops, Starcraft 2, Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Bad Company 2). Crysis runs around 40 50 fps. Half Life two runs very smoothly, particularly when in comparison to my old 5870. The image tended to stutter with the 5870. I have not seen any glitches with the 580. I am happy with my buy and intend to go SLI sooner or later.

While it is not the top of its line, its still powerful and can handle any new 3d acute game with high to extreme settings.
What really makes it sweet and worth the upgrade from any older GPU (as in my case) is its support of DirectX eleven which all of the hot games are basing on or moving to through game patches.
If you are one of the hardcore gamers then you may want to attempt a couple of these out in SLI mode or, better, three pieces in 3 way SLI mode.
In any mode you want to setup this GPU, I think you will be happy with the results it offers, making sure that your investment is safe and your PC is pumping five years well into the future, assuring that all forthcoming game releases and graphic processing apps are supported.

I put it in place of my 285GTX. Installed the 8 pin and 6 pin Cables from by power supply. Connected my computer monitor to it, powered up my computer, installed the lasted drivers off NVidia’s web site, and was on my way without any problems at all. I have the hooked up to my computer monitor with an HDMI 1.4a cable (not that I need it since my monitor does not do 3D, but I got it on sale for . Bucks.)

One of the things that I noticed is that it runs cooler and quieter in my computer case than my old 285GTX. I have a thermometer on my case so I can monitor the temperature at any time. My case is 5 7 degrees (F) cooler. This is a nice improvement if heat is a problem for you.

I do not have any games on my computer that use many of direct X eleven features. I was but able to run “Lord of the Rings Online” at my computer’s max resolution (1920×1200@60hz) using direct X eleven mode with everything turned on without any obvious slowdown other than lag caused by my connection (cable Modem service where I’m is iffy on occasion.) It also plays every modern game I have like Call of responsibility Black OPS and Medal of Honor with everything turned on, without any slow down at all. While playing multiplayer in both games. While performance will most likely differ from system to system, this is the fastest graphics card I used so far. I’ll post an update how it plays with other new games I just happen to purchase. If you want benchmark testing results you may be able to just Google “580 GTX reviews”. There are a ton of them and since I only own one card I can not tell you how it’s using SLI.

While this graphics card is costly, it’s now the fastest single graphics card you may be able to purchase without an SLI/Crossfire solution and if the price isn’t a killer for you, then I greatly recommend this card. It’s a quieter and cooler running graphics card than last generations of cards (by NVidia) and handles just about anything you may be able to throw at it. Hope this helps.
